About Me

Nordic Recovery and Health is run by me, Emily Cook.

I grew up in a family with a strong interest and love for both nature and healing. My family is therefore represented by doctors, biologists, alternative therapists, and other wise men and women across generations. Especially, knowledge about Nordic plants and their names was something I learned very early on, and is an interest that has stuck with me since. Medicinal herbs were what I found most fascinating, and my growing knowledge was diligently combined with my interest in animals, and in learning how to help both pets and wild animals when sick or injured. The healing process and the outcome fascinated me, and as a young adult, I decided to make it my profession to help others.

And so I did… it was somewhat accidental, during an internship, that I started working with substance and alcohol abuse treatment. I pursued an education in the field and in connection with my work to help the wonderful (but heavily affected) individuals recover, I read all the books I could find about nutrition, vitamins, minerals, and how to guide someone back to health. I learned different techniques in nutrition, manual therapy, and other ways to assist people through withdrawal, which is a very challenging part of overcoming addiction.

I worked intensively with substance and alcohol treatment for many years, primarily in Denmark and the USA. The USA was particularly advanced back then (in the 1990s) in addressing vitamin deficiencies in substance abusers, and I experienced a harmonious and dynamic collaboration between enthusiasts of alternative therapies and doctors who worked with a conventional approach on a daily basis. The results were impressive.

Over time, I had children and shifted to quieter areas of work with less travel and excitement, but I continued as a volunteer. However, I missed working on improving health as a profession.

Therefore, five years ago, I began updating my knowledge in nutrition and manual therapy, and pursued an extensive education as a Naturopath/Biopath. This education rekindled the spark of my deep interest in understanding health and finding solutions to extensive health problems. Alongside training to become a Naturopath, I took numerous courses in techniques and aspects of seeking health, and I will continue to do so to help people return to being able to live the lives they desire.

This summer of 2023, I completed my education at the Danish school, Institut for Biologisk Medicin, and I can now call myself a Naturopath IBM or Biopath IBM (which is the Danish title). I have specialized in support and care for autoimmune diseases and hormonal challenges, and I also work on assisting recovery from illness and accidents.

I am truly looking forward to helping wherever I can!
